The Middle East’s newest luxury brand proclaimed its arrival with the unveiling of its G90 sedan in Dubai last month. The flagship sedan is set to arrive in Oman next month.
Offering superior levels of comfort and technology, advanced safety and driver assistance features, and a choice of three V6 and V8 engines including an all-new twin-turbo option, the G90 has been engineered from the ground-up to offer elite customers a distinctive choice.
The Interior Experience
When it comes to the cabin, the G90 has all the makings of a true luxury sedan. In this class, you’d expect real wood and aluminium trim and soft leather coverings on just about everything, but the heated and ventilated front chairs, 22-way driver and 16-way front passenger adjustable seats, are just the first of many elegant touches designed to maximise comfort. The driver’s seatback can actually articulate in the middle and has adjustable lumbar, shoulder bolster, and lower cushion extensions.
There’s an artful mix of analog and digital details in the cabin with a 12.3-inch central infotainment screen controlled using a knob mounted on the centre console, wireless cellphone charging, and a full colour head-up display juxtaposed with a dash-mounted analog clock, large speedometer and tachometer instrumentation, and logically arrayed, tastefully executed buttons and knobs for infotainment and climate control functions on the centre stack.
The Drive
The Genesis G90 is effortless to drive, nearly silent with hardly a shiver of engine shake, even at high speeds. Multi-link independent suspension makes its way to all four corners, along with electronically-controlled dampers that are constantly adjusting to road conditions. The ride comfort is enough to rival the very best this segment has to offer, particularly from the back seat.
The car is powered by the choice of a new twin-turbocharged 3.3-litre V6 or the 5.0-litre V8. The engine transmits power to the wheels through a eight-speed automatic that runs through the gears smoothly and intelligently.
When it comes to the safety side, G90 offers every active safety technology out there, including, among others, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning and prevention, adaptive cruise control with full stop, and blind-spot warning. There’s also a driver attention alert that will beep and buzz the haptic steering wheel and flash a warning if it senses a driving pattern indicating sleepiness or inattention. The G90 also gets a head-up display that puts key information including the given speed limit and current speed, turn-by-turn navigation directions, and safety system warnings directly in the driver’s field of vision.
The Take-Away
Sure, a lot of luxury vehicles come with these options, but one of the key differences is that with the 2017 Genesis G90, it all comes standard, making the G90 an impressive new addition to the luxury sedan segment, sure to give the existing brands a run for their money.
