Muscat: A young Omani art director is working his way to the top of the film industry as he is presenting his latest movie in the United States.
Mohammed Husam Al Kindi, also known as ‘Chndy’ was chosen to be the art mastermind behind the Saudi movie Al Wasati.
He is now in Los Angeles, where a series of Saudi films were to premier on November 3 and 4, 2016 for the first time in the US.
But Chndy is no stranger to the world of glamour and red carpets as he designed the poster of the 2017 Academy Awards nominee Barakah Meets Barakah which was featured in international motion picture events.

Asked about his poster design, which displays a blue slipper, he explained that the slipper toss is an important part in the movie “where it changes the whole outcome of the ending and the narrative,”
Light composure
Chndy told the Times of Oman that, as an art director, he built the sets, made the props, chose the outfits and was consulted when choosing colours and the light composure for the movie.

“For example, there was a part in the script when I asked the director if the guy -actor- is depressed so I could play with the light to make it darker,” he said.
Nevertheless, Chndy is mostly recognised for his retro and vibrant movie posters.
Poster
“Another feature film has approached me few days ago to design their poster. Al Wasati is my second movie poster to be featured at an international scale,” Chndy said. After months of work since the last Eid Al Fitr, the movie became ready for the film roll only three weeks ago.
The movie was premiered in Paramount Studios in Los Angeles on Friday and was attended by professional and influencers of the film industry.
The show will be open for the public and is expecting a full house of more than 2,000 attendants at Ace Theatre in Los Angeles.
The initiative, Saudi Film Days, is spearheaded by the King Abdulaziz Centre for World Culture.
Al Wasati is one of seven Saudi movies which will be premiered on Friday. The movie is directed by Ali Al Kalthami, a director, producer, content writer, actor and co-founder of C3Films and Telfaz11.
Socio-cultural issues
Al Kalthami’s body of work addresses the socio-cultural issues in the Gulf and Middle East region. He is known to be one of the leaders in the new media movement in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf.
