Muscat: From the Port Sultan Qaboos, the National Ferries Company (NFC) launched its first journey to Chabahar City of Iran on Wednesday.
The journey on board ferry Hurmoz was coordinated with one of the travel and tour agents in the Sultanate (Al Zomorod Tourism), which leased the ferry boat and promoted the journey by offering competitive rates, compared with air transport.
The turnout of passengers has been great, especially since the journey took less than three and a half hours amidst a very convenient atmosphere and quick procedures.
Fayez bin Khamis Al Harrasi, communications manager at NFC, said the company’s marketing plan over the past period has relied on involving travel and tour agents in the Sultanate for the promotion of ferries’ journeys to create a real partnership with travel and tourism companies.
NFC will provide logistic support to travel and tourism agents to create added value for the tourism sector in the Sultanate. It will also provide the private sector with the opportunity to benefit from the services and facilities provided by government companies. Al Harrasi pointed out that during the upcoming period, journeys between Muscat and Chabahar will be operated upon demand from travel and tourism agents in the Sultanate. This year, NFC has expanded its operations, especially to Iranian ports. Chabahar is now the third destination for the company after Qeshm and Bandar Abbas.
