Muscat shares decline despite rise in volumes

Muscat: Although trading volumes improved, the MSM30 Index dropped marginally at 5,416.84 points. The MSM Sharia Index gained 0.13 per cent to close at 840.88 points.
Al Anwar Ceramics was the most active in terms of volume while Oman Flour Mills led in turnover. Monday’s top gainer was Al Anwar Ceramics, up by 4.83 per cent, while Al Suwadi Power was top loser, down 4.15 per cent.
As many as 561 trades were executed on Monday, generating turnover of OMR2.28 million with 10.26 million shares changing hands. Out of 44 traded securities, 12 advanced, nine declined and 23 remained unchanged. Arab and GCC investors were net buyers to the tune of OMR109,000 worth of shares followed by Omani investors at OMR87,000 while foreign investors, who were net sellers, sold stsocks amounting to OMR196,000.
Financial Index gained 0.50 per cent to close at 7,029.14 points. Al Izz Bank, HSBC Bank Oman, Al Anwar Holding, Bank Muscat and Al Sharqia Investments increased by 3.08 per cent, 1.80 per cent, 1.25 per cent, 1 per cent and 0.88 per cent, respectively. Al Batinah Investment and Al Omaniya Financial Services declined by 1.18 per cent and 0.36 per cent, respectively.
Industrial Index closed at 7,106.83 points, up by 0.22 per cent. Al Anwar Ceramics, National Aluminium and Oman Flour Mills gained 4.83 per cent, 3.72 per cent and 0.61 per cent, respectively. Galfar Engineering, A’Saffa Foods and Raysut Cement declined by 2.17 per cent, 1.42 per cent and 0.66 per cent, respectively.
Services Index ended lower at 2,997.47 points, down by 0.36 per cent. Al Jazeera Services, OIFC and National Gas increased by 4.44 per cent, 2.22 per cent and 2 per cent, respectively. Al Suwadi Power, Ooredoo, Oman Telecommunications Company and Sharqiyah Desalination declined by 4.15 per cent, 1.90 per cent, 0.34 per cent and 0.11 per cent, respectively.
