Muscat: Muscat University, Oman’s newest university, will move into its new Al Ghubra campus in May 2017.
The seven-floor campus will have dedicated spaces for engineering laboratories and research and development facilities, in addition to lecture halls and a large library.
“We have prepared the plans for every section of every floor for the new facility,” said Nasser Al Masroori, Media Relations Officer for Muscat University. “The first floor is for the administration, with the library to be constructed after that.
“The next floors will be for our engineering department and our logistics and laboratories sections,” he added.
Al Masroori told the Times of Oman that the Board of Trustees of the university held a meeting to chart the future of Muscat University, which has signed partnerships with two UK universities, Aston University and Cranfield University.
The meeting was chaired by Dr Juma bin Ali Al Juma, Chairman of the Board, in the presence of Deputy Chair Sayyid Khalid bin Hamad Al Busaidi and a number of board members from government entities, the private sector, and businessmen from inside and outside the Sultanate.
The meeting was held at the university’s temporary offices in the Children’s Public Library, Al Qurm, and was presided over by Vice Chancellor Dr Anthony Cahalan.
Same courses
“The courses that the students study here will be the same as those in Aston and Cranfield Universities,” revealed Al Masroori. “Every semester here will offer the same academic (courses) as those in the UK.
“Some professors from Aston and Cranfield will come once or twice every semester and stay for three days to a week to check on the progress at Muscat
University.”
