Indian folk play brings record 331st performance to Oman

Muscat: An Indian folk play that has received critical acclaim across the world staged its 331st worldwide appearance in the Sultanate of Oman.
Titled ‘Waiting Rooms’, this woman-centric Gujarati play was held by the Gujarati wing of the Indian Social Club at Le Grand Hall in Al Falaj Hotel on Saturday, the 18th of February, 2017.
A satirical take on male dominated Indian family culture and the typical challenges faced by women in every walk of life, whether as teenagers, as housewives or working women, the play brought out these issues in a succinct manner, which is sure to leave a long lasting impact on the audience.
Writer Prayag Dave and director DhirajPalshetkar are the architects of the play’s stupendous success, which once again brought out many laughs, several wise audible nods, and to top it all, a scintillating climax beyond imagination, which left the jam-packed audience spellbound.
The play revolves around four women – a homemaker, a corporate executive, a teacher, and a young, orphaned, independent girl – from different walks of life, who come face to face for a few hours in a waiting-room at a train station in northern India.
The pluralistic title ‘Waiting Rooms’is suggestive of the inner waiting rooms,in the minds & hearts of these women, the credibility of which was aptly established during the course of the play.
The destinies of these women were linked in a subtle yet enterprising way, which was revealed only towards the end, with the intention of surprising the audience andproviding them a thrilling climax.

The artists were felicitated at the hands of Mr. C M Sardar, Honorary Vice President of the Indian Social Club, Oman, while Mr. ChandrakantChothani, Hon. Convener of the Muscat Gujarati Samaj took the opportunity to thank the audience, the management committee and all the sponsors, without whose support, a high profile event of this scale would not have been possible.

Special thanks were extended to KhimjiRamdas, Muscat Pharmacy, Unique Contracting, Intisar Corporation, Al Rawahi International, Al Ansari, Lakhoo’s, Ramniklal B Kothary, Malabar Gold & Diamonds, New India Assurance, Jahco, Pushottam Kanji Exchange, Mehul Enterprises and Abu Ali Al Kharusi & Partners (AAK).
