Ministry bid to boost Oman's Central Wholesale Fish Market

Muscat: Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries organised on Tuesday a meeting with private sector companies operating in the fisheries sector, especially working in the marketing of fish products.
The meeting aimed at raising the purchasing power of the Central Wholesale Fish Market, and attract these companies to deal with the market and to introduce them and the services it offers.
Dr. Hamad bin Said Al Oufi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries for Fisheries chaired the meeting. He said that this market is the first of its kind in the region as an e-wholesale market to all traders registered in the market in advance and that the financial transactions are electronically conducted and the clearing between the seller and the buyer is done at the same time.
The quantities of fish offered in the period from 2014 to 2016 were (8,979) tonnes and sales transactions were (143,917) and the total value for the same period was OMR7,362,488.
