Muscat: A five-year agreement worth OMR150,000 was signed between Mwasalat and LuLu Hypermarkets LLC for naming rights for two new bus stops and one AC bus shelter in Muscat.
Mwasalat shall provide the naming rights for the two bus stops located at LuLu Hypermarket Darsait and LuLu Hypermarket Al Bander, in Mawaleh and the AC bus shelter next to Oman Avenues Mall.
The signing of the agreement is set to enhance Mwasalat’s revenue streams, due to their selling of naming rights to different bus stops and shelters across the Muscat governorate. “This will enable Mwasalat to find additional sources to cover their operational costs, and to reduce government support. This five- year agreement is set to be worth a total of OMR150,000,” according to a spokesperson of LuLu Hypermarkets.
Ahmad bin Ali Al Bulushi, CEO of Mwasalat, said the main aim is to encourage more and more people to use the bus services.
LuLu Hypermarket will carry the full naming and branding rights for the Oman Avenues Mall AC bus shelter.
The project will form a major part of a series of planned transformation phases at Oman Avenues Mall, and it will expand on the range of services provided by Mwasalat.
In December 2016, Mwasalat signed a similar agreement with Omantel to name two AC bus shelters - under the Omantel name - which featured air-conditioning facilities.
These AC bus shelters were located close to Muscat’s prominent Sultan Qaboos highway in Al Khuwair in the Muscat Governorate; and in South Mawaleh, near the main road, leading to the Dakhliyah Governorate.
Mwasalat, the rebranded version of Oman National Transport Company, transported nearly 3.7mn passengers from January 1 to December 31, 2016.
