President Donald Trump's son Donald Trump Jr. met with a Kremlin-linked lawyer during the campaign after reportedly being promised damaging information about Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.
The New York Times reporting on Sunday that Donald Junior met with lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya at Trump Tower in June 2016.
The report is the first indication that someone in the president's inner circle was open to receiving help from Moscow.
Donald Junior confirming in a statement to the Times that during the meeting, the lawyer said she had information that Russia-connected individuals were funding the Democratic National Committee and supporting Clinton.
In his statement, Donald Junior said the lawyer's comments were "vague, ambiguous and made no sense."
He concluded that quote "she had no meaningful information."
The Times reporting that then-campaign chairman Paul Manafort and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner also attended the meeting.
Allegations of the Trump campaign's ties to Russia have plagued the president's first five months in office.
The Kremlin has denied any involvement in trying to tilt the election for Trump, while the president has repeatedly denied any collusion with Russia.
