The New York Times reports that Donald Trump Jr. was told in an email before meeting a Russian lawyer that Moscow was behind efforts to help his father's election campaign.

The New York Times reporting Monday the U.S. president's son was told the Russian government was behind a push to elect his father before the meeting with a Moscow-linked lawyer that's sparked concern from U.S. lawmakers.
Trump Jr. says he met with that lawyer because he thought they had damaging information about then-candidate Hillary Clinton.
Now the Times cites three sources saying a publicist told Trump's eldest son in an email that the info was part of the Kremlin's effort to sway the campaign.
The newspaper says the message will likely factor into the ongoing investigation over whether team Trump had ties with Russia.
That news coming hours after Trump Jr confirmed he's hired a criminal defense lawer to represent him after even some Republicans called for him to be interviewed by the Senate Intelligence Committee.
Allegations over Trump's campaign's ties to Russia have hung over the President's first five months in office.
The Justice department hiring ex-FBI director Robert Mueller to head up the investigation.
Russia has denied involvement in trying to tilt the election scales for Trump.
