Silverstone: Oman’s Al Faisal Al Zubair was in a competitive pace once again during the qualifying session for the fifth round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Super Cup at the Silverstone circuit in England on Saturday.
The Lechner Racing Middle East team driver qualified 15th for Sunday morning’s race and continues to climb through the ranks in the world’s leading GT3 series. His fastest lap was a tour of two minutes and 05.789 secs, a mere 0.947 seconds off pole position.
“I am very happy with how qualifying went this morning, P15,” said FZ Racing’s Al Faisal.
“We showed now last weekend and this weekend that we can be amongst the leading 15. I am improving all the time. The qualifying could have been even better. I was on a fast lap and was blocked in one of the corners. With the grid differences so small, a few tenths (of a second) could have put me in the top 10. Now I can look forward to pushing in the race and getting in the top 10.”
Dennis Olsen qualified on pole position with a fastest lap of two minutes and 04.842 seconds to finish the session 0.109 seconds quicker than Dylan Pereira. Series leader Michael Ammermuller qualified in third position.
Teams were permitted time to practice on the 5.898km circuit on Friday afternoon. Ammermuller had been quickest in that session with a time of 2:05.688 from Olsen and Mattia Drudi. Al Zubair was 17th.
The fifth round of the 11-race Porsche Mobil 1 Super Cup fires into life at 1045hrs on Sunday.
