Witnessing how a single flower or poem can change one’s heart is what inspires young men and women to seek ways to spread messages of kindness, compassion, and forgiveness, which is what the Fahaddath voluntary team is all about. Shakir Al Raisi, a member of Fahaddath, said the team was formed in 2015, and is run by group of experienced young locals who have a passion for giving back to their community. Today, the team has more than 600 volunteers and counting.
The concept of their work focuses on sharing the love that God gave us, and drawing a smile from those in need of it, and perhaps leave an imprint on their hearts that will be remembered for ages to come. The team operates within Muscat, and has been active since 2015, when they launched their first initiative. Today, they have become one of the most talked about groups in Muscat, especially after their Ramadan initiatives that took place around town. “Our vision is to create a more compassionate, kind, loving, forgiving, and generous Arab community,” said Shakir, adding that “our message is to draw a smile on people’s faces by developing their gifts and help them live a beautiful experience full of giving and volunteering.”
Fahaddath has been active in spreading messages on a variety of subjects, such as the values of tolerance, love, and charity. All in hope to plant a seed in peoples’ hearts and making them witness how a simple message can change an entire society, positively.
The team’s goals include doing good deeds by participating and volunteering in different Arab societies; instilling team spirit and building a family of volunteers through solidarity, cooperation, tolerance, and care; co-existing and accepting others regardless of differences; teaching youngsters and children on how to be involved in charitable work, and how to become a caring being; instilling the value of responsibility amongst youth; and creating equal opportunities for young people to initiate important causes in their communities.
The team has carried out a number of initiatives that were of great importance to society. In 2015, they distributed more than 4,000 meals in 17 days. In 2016, the team’s second initiative took place, where they distributed 2,372 meals in just four days.
The team also helped collecting in-kind donations, such as tools for senior citizens that could make their lives easier.
This year, the team distributed food to 1,000 people in four days, and fed 900 others earlier during the month of Ramadan.
As the days pass by, Shakir and his team are continuing on their mission of creating a community full of love and understanding. Best of luck for their future initiatives.
