Muscat: Ministry of Health, represented by the Quality Assurance Centre, launched an initiative of the World Health Organisation’s (WHO’s) regional office for the Eastern Mediterranean “Patient Safety Friendly Hospital, PSFH” at the Starcare Hospital on Tuesday.
The initiative was launched at one of the private sector institutions due to its health services and safety environment and has also been launched at the Nizwa and Rustaq Hospitals.
It involves the implementation of a set of patient safety standards at hospitals. Compliance with the standards ensures that patient safety is accorded the necessary priority and that the staff implements the best practices.
It also aims to establish the principle of safety in health service institutions, and assessing patient safety in hospitals by providing a framework that enables hospitals to assess patient care from a patient safety perspective. In addition to building the capacity of staff in patient safety, it also involves consumers in improving health care safety.
