Muscat: Oman’s electricity production increased to more than 32.8 thousand GW in 2015, logging a 12.6 per cent increase, compared to 2014 level.
The country's water production exceeded 308 million cubic metres, an increase of 4.2 per cent, until November 2015, according to the latest statistics released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The Sultanate’s total electricity production till the end of December 2015 stood at 32,758.3 GW per hour, compared to 29,094.6 GW per hour in the corresponding period of 2014, constituting a rise of 12.6 per cent.
The Governorates of North and South Al Batinah, as well as the Governorate of A'Dhahirah, recorded the highest rate at the governorates level. Power production in these governorates stood at 16,861.6 GW per hour, accounting for an increase of 7.6 per cent, compared to 15,664.8 GW per hour in the same period last year. The Governorates of North and South A'Sharqiyah recorded the highest growth at 75.8 per cent in the production level, compared to the corresponding period last year. The total production in the two governorates stood at 5,044.4 GW per hour in 2015 compared to 2,868.9 GW per hour during the corresponding period in 2014.
The total electricity production in the Governorate of Muscat reached 5,634.7 GW per hour, reflecting a decline of 5 per cent from the 2014 level when it had reached 5,930 GW per hour.
The total electricity production in the Governorate of Dhofar reached 3,236.5 GW per hour at the end of December 2015, an increase of 8.1 per cent compared to the 2,933.1 GW per hour production recorded during the same period of 2014.
The total electricity production in the Governorate of Musandam reached 357.7 GW per hour, an increase of 77.7 per cent compared to the production recorded during the same period of 2014, when it was 332.1 GW per hour.
The total electricity production in the Governorate of A'Dakhiliyah reached 1303.2 GW per hour, an increase of 17.3 per cent compared to 1110.8 GW per hour recorded during the same period of 2014.
The total electricity production in the Governorate of Al Wusta reached 320.2 GW per hour, an increase of 64.3 per cent over the same period in 2014 when it was 194.9 GW per hour.
The net electricity production of the Sultanate till the end of December 2015 had reached 32,081.8 GW per hour, compared to the figures recorded during the same period of 2014 when it had reached 28,399.2 GW per hour, thus reflecting an increase of 13 per cent.
This production includes the power procured by Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) and the procurement by the Rural Areas Electricity Company (RAEC).
The statistics issued by the NCSI indicated that the biggest amount of net production of electricity was recorded in the Governorates of North and South A'Sharqyiah, where it was 5,025.6 GW per hour at the end of December 2015. The figure for the net production during the same period of 2014 was 2,841.6 GW per hour. Thus, there was an increase of 76.9 per cent.
The net production in the Governorates of North and South Al Batinah, in addition to the Governorate of A'Dhahirah, at the end of last December, had reached 16,542.4 GW per hour, an increase by 8.1 per cent compared to the net production recorded during the same period of 2014, when it had reached 15,302.2 GW per hour.
The net electricity production in the Governorate of Muscat reached 5,434.1 GW per hour at the end of last December, compared to 5,774.9 GW per hour recorded last year, a decline of 5.9 per cent.
The net production in the Governorate of Dhofar at the end of December 2015 had reached 3,085.3 GW per hour, compared to 2014 level when it was 2,820.5 GW per hour, this reflecting an increase of 9.4 per cent.
The net production in the Governorate of Musandam at the end of last December reached 342.9 GW per hour, compared to the net production recorded during the same period of 2014, when it was 315.2 GW per hour, thus accounting for an increase of 8.8 per cent.
The net production in the Governorate of A'Dakhiliyah at the end of December had reached 1392.9 GW per hour, compared to the net production recorded during the same period of 2014 at 1102.3 GW per hour, an increase of 17.4 per cent. The net production in the Governorate of Al Wusta at the end of December 2015 had reached 356.9 GW per hour, an increase of 47.1 per cent, compared to the same period of 2014 when it was just 242.6 GW per hour.On the other hand, the Sultanate’s production of water till the end of November 2015 had reached 308,143.900 cubic metres, an increase of 4.2 per cent compared to the water production recorded during the same period of 2014 at 295,711.400 cubic metres.
The water production in the Governorate of Muscat increased by 76.2 per cent to reach 142,595.500 cubic metres, compared to the production recorded during the same period of 2014 at 80.919.800 cubic metres.
The water production in the Governorate of Dhofar declined 6.5 per cent to reach 34,320.000 cubic metres, compared to the production recorded during the same period of 2014 at 36.709.300 cubic metres.
The water production in the other governorates decreased by 26.3 per cent to reach 131,228.400 cubic metres, compared to the production recorded during the same period of 2014, when it had reached 178,082.300 cubic metres.
