Sachsenring: Al Faisal Al Zubair’s hectic late summer of Porsche racing continues when the Omani heads to Germany’s Sachsenring for rounds 11 and 12 of the prestigious Porsche Carrera Cup Germany this weekend.
There is a six-week break between the last two rounds of the Porsche Mobil 1 Super Cup in Italy and Mexico and the Middle Eastern rookie has managed to squeeze in the final three rounds of the German one-make series as he continues to gain experience on a wide range of race circuits in very different weather conditions.
“Looking back on a good weekend at the Nurburgring, I feel that the result could have been better than it panned out,” said FZ Racing’s Al Faisal.
“I should have been higher up the running order at the end of the two races, but my start let me down.
“For the Sachenring, my aim is to be inside the top 10 and I think that is definitely possible. It will be tough, because this will be my first time at the Sachsenring, but we proved that we can be up there. I am excited for it and preparing now.”
Last weekend’s double-header on the Nurburgring Sprint circuit saw victories fall to Nick Yelloly and Dennis Olsen and both will be in the hunt for honours on one of Germany’s lesser used circuits.
Located in Hohenstein-Emsstthal, near Chemnitz, in Saxony, the Sachsenring is one of three race circuits in the eastern states of Germany, alongside Oschersleben and Lausitsring.
It was rebuilt in 2001 to the latest safety standards and received a permanent pit lane. The Porsche Carrera Cup and the DTM visited for the first time from 2000 to 2002 and the Porsche series returned in 2015 in conjunction with the ADAC GT Masters, with which it will share this weekend’s timetable.
Porsche Carrera Cup Germany Racing gets underway with one hour of training on the 3.645km circuit from 1030hrs (1230hrs Oman time) on Friday morning.
Qualifying takes centre stage from 0935hrs on Saturday morning and precedes the first of the two races, starting at 1440hrs. The second race gets underway at 1145hrs (1345hrs Oman time) on Sunday.
