In a notice to travel agents, the airline said: “We are happy to inform you that it has been decided to waive the charges for carriage of television up to maximum size of 48 inches on Air India flights with effect from today until further notice. This will be considered as free baggage allowance of the passenger and anything over and above free baggage allowance will attract excess baggage charges.
“Due to space constraint it is not feasible to carry television beyond the size of 48 inches on Air India flights from Muscat,” the airline said, in a circular issued yesterday.
Yesterday, rivals Jet Airways announced a similar scheme. Duty on TV at Indian airports would still have to be paid.
