Temperatures drop to 6 degrees at Oman's Jebel Shams

Muscat: The temperature in Jebel Shams dropped to 6 degrees on Wednesday.
With the arrival of winter winds, the temperatures have started dipping all over Oman, according to an official at the Meteorology Department.
Jebel Shams, which is part of the Al Hajar Mountain range, is situated at an altitude of 3,004 metres above sea level and has recorded temperatures as low as -8 degree Celsius temperature in recent years.
The drop in temperatures in the highest peak in the Gulf has started drawing tourists. "We are now having tourists from other GCC countries," a hotelier said.
With mercury hovering around 33 degrees Celsius in the capital, many citizens and residents have started visiting Jebal Shams. "We visited the highest peak on Tuesday and it was awesome," Satish, an Indian expat who visited the mountains, said.
In its 24-hour outlook, the Meteorological Department said there will be mainly clear skies over most of the Sultanate with continuous cloud advection over Al Wusta and Dhofar governorates and a chance of late night to early morning low level clouds or fog patches along coastal area of Oman Sea and Arabian Sea.
