Muscat: An expatriate who converted a tailoring shop into a clinic in Oman has been arrested and the facility closed down.
The Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) detained the expatriate worker at his clinic in Muttrah.
"The Public Authority for Consumer Protection recently managed to arrest an Asian expatriate worker from a doctor's clinic in Muttrah, which provided medical services and the sale of medicines in a women's tailoring shop where he worked, in clear violation of the Consumer Protection Law and its executive regulations," PACP announced online.
The products were stored in condition that was not suitable for their nature and in violation of the requirements and regulations of the storage mechanism and methods.
A PACP official said: "During the inspection of the clinic, large amounts tablets, capsules, a measuring device, a doctor's instrument, a blood glucose monitor, a pregnancy detector, and an empty packets used to fill medicines for patients were found."
The officials visited the shop where the authenticity of the report was verified and the location of the room attached to the shop was discovered. A number of medicines, medical instruments, medical journals and empty containers were seized. The accused also confessed to practicing the work.
