Muscat: Heavy to moderate rains in some parts of Oman may start from today evening until Monday, an official from the Oman Meteorology department said.
According to officials of the National Multi Hazard Early Warning Centre, the rains are likely to affect Musandam, Muscat, Al Buraimi, A'Dhahira, North and South Al Batinah, A'Dakhliyah, and North and South A'Sharqiyah.
"Though it is likely to start today, it will peak on Saturday so we are advising everyone to take precautions during the rainfall," the official said.
In its 24 hour outlook, Oman Meteorology said partly cloudy to cloudy skies are expected over Musandam, Al Buraimi, Al Dhahira, North and South Al Batinah, Muscat, Al Dakhlia and North and South Al Sharqiya with chances of isolated rain and the occasional thundershower associated with fresh wind and hail.
This is due to the Sultanate being affected by a trough of low pressure starting from Thursday evening until Monday.
Waves are expected to be moderate to rough along the coastal areas of Musandam and in the Sea of Oman, with maximum height ranging between 2 to 3.0 metres.
