
Muscat: In a battle between four-time winners and first time finalists, Al Nasr will clash with Sohar in the final of His Majesty’s Cup Football Championship at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex (SQSC) on Thursday.
The match, which is scheduled to kick off at 7.00 p.m., will be presided over by Fuad bin Ja’afar bin Mohammed Al Sajwani, the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries.
Al Nasr, who won the last of their four titles back in 2006, are sounding confident as they hope to lay their hands on the coveted trophy for the fifth time.
Speaking on the eve of the final, Al Nasr coach Hamza Al Jamal said the team have prepared well and are ready take on Sohar in the summit clash.
Hamza also said that his team are hoping to lift the cup on Thursday night. Sohar’s Moroccan coach Molay Murad also sounded confident of his team winning the trophy.
“We have prepared well for the final. Some of our players also played in the ROP Football Championship final (on Tuesday). All the players are ready for the challenge,” he said.
For the record, Fanja tops the list of winners with nine titles followed by Dhofar (8) and Ahli-Sidab (5).
Like Al Nasr, Al Arouba also won the cup four times while Suwaiq, Sur and Seeb won three times each. Saham and Oman won twice each while Muscat and Al Tale’ea also lifted the trophy once.
