Muscat: The State Council on Tuesday discussed a proposal for the formation of a committee to draft and finalise a report on ‘Enhancing the Role of Education in Supporting the Knowledge-Based Economy.’
The discussion came during the 13th ordinary session of the 3rd annual sitting for the 6th term of the Council, held under the chair of Dr. Yahya bin Mahfoudh Al Mantheri, Chairman of the State Council.
The proposal was submitted by the Education and Research Committee. The head of the Committee delivered a speech in which he stressed that the study comes as an activation of the State Council’s role in providing the educational institutions with the appropriate ideas and visions to develop the education system and enhance its role in supporting the knowledge economy.
During their discussion, honourable members of the Council stressed the study’s importance in supporting the national economy through the use of knowledge production in strengthening the economy.
The Council also approved the proposal to form a special committee to study the proposal “The Language Policy in the Sultanate: Its Reality, Challenges, Development and Activation Mechanism “after discussion.
The State Council will hold today its 14th session of the 3rd annual sitting for the 6th term, during which the proposal submitted by the Economic Committee on the proposal to amend the “Economic Development Law issued by Royal Decree No. 9/75” will be discussed.
