Muscat: Oman's Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) recovered more than OMR82,000 in the Governorate of Al Dhahirah during the first half of 2018, the agency announced in a statement.
The PACP said, "During the first half of 2018, the Consumer Protection Department of Al Dhahirah Governorate managed to recover OMR82,378.022 for a number of consumers.
"OMR72,000 was refunded following amicable arbitration whilst OMR9,490 worth of fines were handed out to violators."
During the first half of 2018, the number of complaints submitted to the PACP totalled 243 complaints and 148 reports. Most were concentrated in the automotive and services sector, which were valued at OMR49,976, followed by the retail sector and construction materials (OMR6,767), electrical and electronic equipment (OMR2,127) and automotive tires (OMR1,196).
