Around 300 influenza cases were recorded in the Sultanate from July to the end of September 2018, according to the Ministry of Health.
This number is a far cry from the close to 1,000 cases recorded during the same period last season.
“Influenza appears in Oman due to the climate, as the Sultanate is a semi-tropical country. Seasonal flu viruses continue to appear throughout the year. However, they become active early in September and can continue until the middle of May, a maximum of two times per year.” - A spokesperson from the Ministry of Health
Statistics show that during this period, the number of influenza cases decreased by 71 per cent.
