Mob arrested in India for attacking female officer

Telangana: Sixteen men have been arrested after an unruly mob physically assaulted a female police officer using sticks as the local police simply watched events unfold.

The mob brutally beat the officer on Sunday in the Indian state of Telangana. The video of the attack quickly went viral across social media.

The mob, led by a member of the state's ruling party, was protesting against a tree plantation drive on Sunday. The forest officer is being treated in hospital for severe injuries.

The party's president condemned the attack on Twitter.

In the video, it is clear that the female officer is trying to placate the crowd as it continues to beat her with sticks.

She was repeatedly hit with sticks until forest officials and local police stepped in to disperse the mob and contain the attack.

This incident has prompted a high-ranking official of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) party, Kalvakuntla Taraka Rama Rao, to condemn the incident on Twitter.
