Washington: TSA officers made a surprising discovery when they found a missile launcher in a man's luggage on Monday.
According to a press release issued by the federal agency, the weapon was detected in a checked bag belonging to a traveller at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.
The TSA stated that the man was quickly tracked down and detained for questioning. Telling officers he was a member of the military, the man said he was traveling from Kuwait and wanted to keep the launcher as a souvenir from the emirate.
Lisa Fabrstein, Public Spokesperson for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), wrote on Twitter, "Man said he was bringing it back from Kuwait as a souvenir. Perhaps he should have picked up a keychain instead!"
The TSA stated that the weapon was not live and was confiscated for safe disposal. The man was allowed to catch his flight.
In a statement, the TSA reiterated that military weapons were not allowed in checked or carry-on bags.
