Now pay traffic fines in interest-free installments while in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi: UAE nationals as well as foreigners in the country who have accrued traffic fines in Abu Dhabi can now pay them in installments, with zero interest rates for up to a year.

The news was confirmed by Colonel Saif Hamad Al Zaabi, the Director of the Abu Dhabi Traffic Department and Head of the Government Accelerators Team in the Central Operations Sector.

In a statement shared online by Abu Dhabi police, he said that those who had accumulated such fines could follow up their traffic violations and pay them through Abu Dhabi Police digital service channels, such as the website and the application of smart phones and self-service devices spread across the Emirate.

Al Zaabi pointed out that Abu Dhabi Police has implemented several initiatives to facilitate the payment of traffic violations on drivers, including the agreement with banks such as First Abu Dhabi First Bank, Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank, Mashreq, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank and Emirates Islamic, to enable drivers to pay the traffic violations, with no interest being issued for one year when credit cards from these banks were used to pay the fines.

Those who have fines pending with Abu Dhabi police, and have credit cards with these banks, can choose to select to pay their fines online, and select a payment plan which will break down the payment of these fines into installments over 12 months.

No interest will be charged over the payment of these fines.

The agreement between Abu Dhabi police and the five banks comes more than a year after the capital’s police force signed a deal of similar measures with First Abu Dhabi Bank alone. The move is part of an awareness programme by the capital’s police force to make drivers in the UAE more aware of committing traffic offences.

It comes as part of their ‘proactive awareness’ programme, and Brigadier Suhail Saeed Al Khalili, Director of Central Operations at Abu Dhabi Police, said that as part of this programme, registered drivers would receive a text message which detailed the seriousness of traffic safety if road rules had been violated. This included an awareness video showing the seriousness of the violation and its impact on the safety of road users.
