Hunting Gazelles in Oman to attract hefty fine, jail term

Muscat: A fine of OMR1000 and six months imprisonment will be imposed on those accused of killing gazelles, the Office for Conservation of Environment (OCE) at the Royal court announced.

The OCE said in a statement: "The Criminal Court in Muscat issued a ruling convicting two defendants of the felony murder of a gazelle and punished them with six months imprisonment and a fine of OMR1,000 for each."

"The court additionally issued a ruling to punish one of the defendants individually for a misdemeanor of threatening a public employee doing his job with a month's imprisonment. Misdemeanors of keeping a weapon without a license will attract a fine of OMR500 and possession of a firearm telescope an amount of OMR300. The court decided to confiscate the weapons and the vehicle used in the crime and obligated the accused to pay the expenses."
