MSM index ends marginally lower

Muscat: The MSM index closed at 3,604.21 points, down 0.11 per cent from previous close. The Sharia Index ended up 0.01 per cent at 516.71 points. Al Jazeera Steel, up 5.98 per cent was the top gainer on Thursday while Al Madina Investment, down 4.00 per cent, was the top loser. Al Jazeera Steel Products was the most active in terms of number of shares traded and Bank Muscat was the most active in terms of turnover. 

A total number of 435 trades were executed during the day's trading session, generating turnover of OMR987,000, with more than 6.38 million shares changing hands. Out of 39 traded stocks, 10 advanced, 11 declined and 18 remained unchanged. At the session close, local investors were net buyers for OMR481,000 while foreign investors were net sellers for OMR418,000 followed by GCC & Arab investors for OMR63,000 worth of shares.

Financial Index closed at 5,799.46 points, down by 0.01 per cent. Al Madina Takaful and National Life & General Insurance, were up 2.70 per cent and 2.38 per cent respectively. Al Madina Investment, Takaful Oman Insurance, Al Sharqia Investment Holding, Al Omaniya Financial Services, and Bank Muscat were down 4.00 per cent, 1.79 per cent, 1.45 per cent, 1.39 per cent, and 0.54 per cent respectively.

Industrial Index closed at 4,044.71 points, up 0.54 per cent. Al Jazeera Steel, Oman Cables Industry, National Aluminium Products, and Oman Cement were up 5.98 per cent, 4.65 per cent, 3.19 per cent, and 0.88 per cent respectively. Raysut Cement, and Al Maha Ceramics were down by 1.90 per cent and 0.93 per cent respectively.

Services index was down 0.19 per cent before closing at 1,563.96 points. OIFC, Oman National Engineering, and SMN Power were up by 2.22 per cent, 1.79 per cent, and 1.32 per cent respectively. Dhofar Generating Company. Phoenix Power, Muscat City Desalination, and Ooredoo Oman were down by 2.56 per cent, 1.79 per cent, 0.99 per cent, and 0.53 per cent respectively.
