Prophet’s birthday holiday likely to fall on this date

Muscat: The holiday to commemorate Prophet Mohammed's birthday is expected to be on Thursday, October 29. 

The Department of Astronomical Affairs at the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs (MERA) said, "The day after tomorrow, Saturday, God willing, the crescent of the month of Rabi Al Awwal for the year 1442 AH, as the astronomical calculations of the city of Muscat indicate that the moon will be in conjunction on Friday at 11:31 pm local time for the Sultanate, and the sun sets on Saturday At 5:39 PM, the moon will descend on Saturday at 6:21 pm."

MERA added: "If the weather is clear, it will be possible to see the crescent of the month of Rabi Al Awwal 1442 AH, on Saturday 29 Safar 1442 AH corresponding to October 17, 2020."

Royal Decree No. 56/2020 determining official holidays states that until Rabi` al-Awwal 12 is an official holiday for the units of the state's administrative apparatus, and other legal persons, and private sector establishments on the occasion of the Prophet's birthday, which is expected to be on Thursday, October 29, according to the Astronomical Affairs report.
