ROP renews allegiance and loyalty on Oman's 50th National Day

Glorious National Day, personnel of Royal Oman Police (ROP) renew their allegiance, loyalty and sincerity to the nation and to His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik, the Supreme Commander. They reaffirm their determination to push forward the country’s development march, maintain security and the public order and offer the best services to citizens and residents.

Since the dawn of the blessed renaissance during the reign of late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said bin Taimour, till today, the Royal Oman Police (ROP) divisions have witnessed modernisation and continued development in all fields besides modernisation of equipment and machinery and qualitative training. The headquarters of the Royal Oman Police is keen to translate the Royal Directives of His Majesty the Sultan and to employ all capabilities in order to safeguard the achievements of the blessed renaissance.

The Royal Oman Police accords due care to train their human cadre and equips them with the police sciences and law in order to keep abreast of latest developments, which have, in turn, reduced the rate of crimes in the Sultanate.

The Royal Oman Police is keen to cooperate with all government departments and private sector establishments and institutions and to coordinate with the civil society and the mass media to disseminate awareness among the community sectors.

They provide security to all areas through the police stations available at all governorates of the Sultanate along with traffic services and other services including the services of passports and residence, civil status services and service centres in the various wilayats.
The Special Task Police units are well-trained to handle emergency cases and to provide support to the other departments of the Royal Oman Police.

To safeguard the coasts and to control smuggling via the Sultanate’s territorial waters, the Headquarters of the Coast Guard Police is equipped with boats well-equipped to perform rescue operations. Coast Guard Police shoulders protection and safety of fishermen along the coasts of the Sultanate and the commercial and industrial ports. Coast Guard Police also secures the major facilities and establishments among other tasks.

The ROP personnel are extending tremendous efforts in control of crimes of all forms and in combating smuggling and cross-border crimes. The ROP stresses the significance of international cooperation in the field of combating drugs crimes through exchange of information and expertise.

The Royal Oman Police has enhanced the role of the Directorate of Police Aviation which supports the various formations of ROP in performing their assigned duties and tasks. ROP Aviation personnel organise patrols to monitor the Sultanate’s coastal areas and to observe suspected boats in the Sultanate’s territorial waters. ROP Aviation also transports the human cadre of other ROP formations to mountainous areas. They ROP aviation also conducts rescue operations and medical evacuation.

During the time of the lockdown mandated by the Supreme Committee on account of the COVID-19 pandemic, the ROP Aviation supported other ROP formations by operating helicopters to monitor movement and ensure that the public places were locked down.
The Royal Oman Police personnel receive training at Sultan Qaboos Academy for Police Sciences. The training division at the Directorate General of Human Resources has established partnerships with a number of international renowned training institutions. Officers Training Institute receives trainees from the various ROP departments to train them on current and future job requirements.

Within the national efforts to control COVID-19 pandemic, ROP has worked to enhance the training efforts, awareness and guidance to ROP personnel and to curb the outbreak of the pandemic. The Royal Oman Police also coordinates and cooperates with the Ministry of Health and other departments concerned with following the developments of the pandemic and on compliance with the precautionary measures and in handling the cases of those arriving to or departing from the Sultanate’s airports and border posts.

The Royal Oman Police has received commendation in the field of offering online services mainly during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the report issued by the UN on the level of advancement of e-government services.
The Royal Oman Police has succeeded in providing quality and integrated e-services for citizens and residents mainly following the establishment of a direct link to the database of the civil status and the other government and private entities to facilitate and accelerate the procedures and clearance of different transactions.

The Royal Oman Police, represented by the Directorate General of Customs offers online customs services, facilities and initiatives that serve the community and further activate the trade exchange between the Sultanate’s ports and the ports of other countries. The initiatives include the safe passage initiative to link the ports and airports with the free duty zones of the Sultanate, the activation of the international land transport system for goods and the launch of the authorised economic operator programme for establishing partnerships and mutual trust between the departments and the private sector establishments and companies.

The traffic statistics have showed a reduction in the fatality cases associated with traffic accidents, due to the efforts accorded by Royal Oman Police. The efforts include dissemination of traffic awareness, the deployment of ROP personnel at all roads, the use of advanced technology and compliance with the international traffic control standards. Spreading awareness among road users about the traffic rules and conducting traffic safety campaigns and competitions are among other measures and efforts.

The branches of Traffic Safety Institute provide an opportunity for the spread of traffic awareness, mainly following the introduction of simulation devices.
The Royal Oman Police is keen on diversifying means of communication with the society using all mass media and social media besides publication of magazines and supplements, which contribute to the dissemination of awareness and familiarises the public with the police services.

Omani women have proved their competence in the field of police work in various security tasks. The Headquarters of Royal Oman Police has boosted the role women play in the various police fields.
