Muscat: The Ministry of Labour, on Tuesday, has announced that employers will be given a grace period to correct the status of their expatriate employees between 6th December and 6th January. This move has come as part of the efforts to regulate and organise the labour market.
The employer can amend the occupations of expats workers that have been 'Omanised' to other occupations in accordance with the requirements of the profession to be filled.
During this period the employer can amend the expats workers professions from banned occupations to other professions or vice versa, and permitting the amendment of occupations of various professional levels according to the requirements of the profession to be filled.
Additionally, the decision allows “amending and transferring the data of the non-Omani manpower from one activity to another in the same institution in accordance with the requirements of the issued work licenses”
"Amending the wages of the non-Omani workforce according to the approved work contract" will be allowed as per the decision issued.
The decision "allows the transfer of expats workers services from one employer to another in accordance with the established controls and procedures.”
“An employer can apply for a license to recruit and engage in work for the expat workforce from inside the Sultanate from the suspended activities if the conditions prescribed for the license are met.”
“It is allowed to cancel a worker's leave of work notification after paying the prescribed fees to cancel the report, fees and fines resulting from the expiration of the work permit and an exception to the period stipulated for cancelling the notification by the employer."
