Jail term, deportation ordered against expat in Oman

Muscat: The Court of First Instance in the wilayat of Barka has issued imprisonment and deportation judicial rulings against an expat worker violating the Consumer Protection Law. He was facing charges of trading in commodities without obtaining approval from the concerned authorities.

The Consumer Protection Authority said: "The authority judicial control officers  in Barka, in cooperation with the Barka Police Station, seized an expatriate worker selling non-smoking chewing tobacco in one of the places suspected of dealing with such prohibited goods."

"The court ruled on several violations and said that he be punished with imprisonment for a period of three months for the first violation, for the second violation with one month imprisonment and for the third violation with seven days imprisonment. And he will face deportation after finishing the jail term," the authority added.
