Mumbai: Vishal Bhardwaj's period drama "Rangoon", boasting of a stellar cast of Saif Ali Khan, Kangana Ranaut and Shahid Kapoor, will hit theatres on February 24 next year.
The film, which is set in the era of 1940s and will see Kangana in the role of an actress, wrapped its final shoot schedule a couple of weeks ago.
Vishal, who calls the movie closest to his heart, says he wants it to be known as his best work ever.
"I am very happy with what we have achieved during the shooting of Rangoon. This film is closest to my heart and I want to make sure this is seen as my best work ever," the National Award-winner said in a statement.
Vishal shared that Kangana was particularly excited about the film's release date as she is emotionally attached to February as her 2011 superhit film "Tanu Weds Manu" hit theatres the same month.
"When we suggested February 24th as the release date, Kangana was very excited as she is sentimentally attached to February given the exceptional response to 'Tanu Weds Manu', which had released in the same period and was also produced by Viacom18 Motion Pictures.
"Given that it's Shahid's birthday on 25th February, there is no better way to celebrate," Vishal added.
"Rangoon" will mark filmmaker's reunion with Saif, who he last directed in 2006 crime drama "Omkara". "For Saif and me, 'Rangoon' has been even more special as it's been ten years since Omkara and an interesting experience working together again after a full decade."
The movie will reportedly witness some epic battle scenes and historic references.
"Rangoon" has been co-produced by Vishal, Sajid Nadiadwala under the Nadiadwala Grandson banner and Viacom18 Motion Pictures.
