Muscat: Ministry of Information has issued a statement clarifying that” importing books for personal use does not require prior approval or permission from the Ministry of Information, and the prior authorisation applies only to importing books for the purpose of publication and distribution.”
This came after people have circulated in social media that the Ministry of Information has taken a decision that anyone who wants to import books must get prior approval and permission from the ministry.
On the other hand, one of the shipping companies in the Sultanate said in a mail sent to its customers that according to the new Omani customs laws, "please be aware that shipments that include books, medicines and mobile devices require ministerial approval.”
