Over 90 people hospitalised with COVID in Oman in 24 hours

Muscat: More than 90 patients have been hospitalised within 24 hours in the Sultanate, according to data from the Ministry of Health, pointing to a significant increase in new cases of coronavirus infections.

On Tuesday, statistics made available on Tarassud, the coronavirus monitoring app of the ministry, showed that the number of those hospitalised during the past 24 hours reached 94, and 169 patients were admitted to ICU during the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of patients admitted to health institutions to 623 cases.

The Sultanate also recorded six deaths during the past 24 hours bringing the total deaths to 1,728 and 1,208 new cases of coronavirus, according to the daily report of the Ministry of Health.

The Ministry stated that the total number of registered cases in the Sultanate is 165,482 cases, the recovered 148,303, at 90.81 per cent, and 1,728 deaths, at 1.05 per cent.

Speaking to the Times of Oman, Ibrahim Al Maimani, a data analyst, said, “In terms of hospitalised patients cases in hospitals of the Sultanate, it was noticed that the number of inpatients until the end of March reached 515 cases, and the cases rose to 623 on Tuesday, and for the first time we reached this number since the beginning of the pandemic, with an increase of 108 cases, which forms an increase of 21 per cent.”

He continued, “As for intensive care cases, their number reached 156 cases by the end of March, and on April 6, their number reached 196 cases in intensive care, an increase of 40 cases, by 26 per cent.”

About the deaths due to COVID-19, he said, “The total number of deaths in the first five days of April reached 47, with a daily average of 9.4 deaths per day, and this indicator changes high compared to the previous months.”
