Muscat: A medical team specialized in the Pediatric Surgery Unit at Sultan Qaboos University Hospital managed to perform the first surgery of its kind in the Sultanate of Oman.
The head of the medical team, Dr. Zainab bint Nasser Al-Balushi, Senior Consultant Pediatric Surgeon and Head of the Pediatric Surgery Unit, Deputy Director General of the University Hospital for Medical Affairs, said that the girl was suffering from frequent urinary infections and reflux of urine from the ureters.
She added to Oman News Agency that the operation aimed to reduce the incidence of urine infections by 50 percent, noting that the operation took about four hours logistically and medically, and the case was followed up for five days from the operation until its discharge from the hospital in good health.
