Rio de Janeiro: The Sultanate will participate along with countries of the world, in the official opening of the Olympic Games to be hosted by the city of Rio de Janeiro.
This is the Sultanate's 9th participation in the history of the Olympic Games. About 4,800 athletes will participate in the ceremony representing the 206 countries.
The Sultanate's delegation will be present at the opening ceremony wearing the Omani attire in the team parade. The Sultanate’s flag at the opening ceremony will be held by the international shooter Hamed Al Khatri.
It should be noted that the Sultanate’s mission arrived on Thursday to Rio de Janeiro to participate in the global event. The official delegation participating in the Olympics is headed by Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed Al Zubair, Chairman of the Omani Olympic Committee (OOC).
The opening ceremony of the Rio Olympics, which will be witnessed in early hours of August 6 in Oman, will break the tradition of extravaganza.
The Sultanate will be represented in the games by Barakat Al Harthi, Mazoon Al Alawi and their trainers including Mohammad Al Hooti.
The others who will compete are Hamed Al Khatri and Wadha Al Balushi.
