CPA refutes inaccurate reports on construction material pricing in Oman

Muscat: The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA), has issued a statement regarding building material prices in the Sultanate of Oman.

The Consumer Protection Authority has been monitoring what is being circulated on social media regarding the prices of building materials and their increased rates in the local markets.

The Authority clarifies that the reported price increases are inaccurate and do not accurately reflect actual price levels. The price of iron, for example, increased by only 12 percent between February and May of this year (2026). Cement prices, however, saw an increase of 18 percent .

It should be noted that the prices of building materials, including local ones, may witness varying increases from time to time as a result of supply and demand factors and changes in import, shipping and production costs related to raw materials and affected by economic changes, during limited periods according to the conditions in the region.

The Authority has intensified its monitoring efforts to track building material prices in various markets to prevent exploitation of the current situation. These efforts have resulted in identifying several violating establishments, against which the necessary legal measures have been taken in accordance with applicable regulations.

The Authority affirms its continued commitment to intensive monitoring campaigns, urging all suppliers to adhere to transparency and regulations. It also encourages consumers to report any violations through official channels and calls on everyone to verify information before publishing or sharing it, emphasizing the importance of obtaining data from official and reliable sources.
