Weather alert: Rainfall and thunderstorms expected in parts of Oman

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman's weather authorities have forecast the continued development of convective cloud activity across several regions, bringing scattered rainfall to the Al Hajar Mountains and the Dhofar Governorate. The National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Centre has issued five separate weather alerts for Friday, warning of potential thunderstorms, heavy downpours, strong winds, and active downdrafts.

Regional forecast breakdown

Al Hajar Mountains: Cloud build-up will persist over the central and eastern sections, bringing scattered showers that could turn thundery. Some areas may experience hail and intense, sudden downdraft winds.

Dhofar Governorate: The ongoing Khareef (monsoon) season continues to bring its characteristic mist, fog, and dense low clouds to coastal and mountainous areas. Meanwhile, separate cloud formations over Dhofar's desert interior are expected to trigger isolated thunderstorms. A limited-impact rainfall alert remains active for the Dhofar coastline.

Musandam Governorate: Low clouds are expected to hug the eastern coastline, which may reduce visibility during the early morning hours.

Most of the expected weather impacts have been classified as moderate. However, emergency authorities have strongly advised the public to exercise caution, stay clear of low-lying valleys vulnerable to flash flooding, remain alert to rapidly changing visibility, and follow all official updates.
