
Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman issued 81,630 new national identity cards to Omani citizens during 2025, according to data released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
Of the total, 42,354 identity cards were issued to males and 39,276 to females.
North Al Batinah Governorate recorded the highest number of new identity cards issued, with 18,597, followed by Muscat Governorate with 14,726 and Al Dakhiliyah Governorate with 10,661. Al Wusta Governorate registered the fewest new identity cards at 547.
August witnessed the highest monthly issuance of new identity cards at 12,570, closely followed by July with 12,435, while March recorded the lowest monthly total at 2,287.
Meanwhile, the total number of new and renewed Omani passports issued in 2025 reached 290,918. Muscat Governorate accounted for the largest share with 76,484 passports, followed by North Al Batinah with 56,111 and Al Dakhiliyah with 33,616. Al Wusta Governorate recorded the lowest number at 1,797 passports.
The data also showed a continued decline in passport issuance over the past three years, falling from 431,211 in 2023 to 310,913 in 2024 and further to 290,918 in 2025.
In legal documentation, the number of marriage contracts registered at notary public offices increased significantly to 23,117 in 2025, up from 17,896 in 2024 and 14,716 in 2023, representing a 57 percent increase over two years.
Divorce documents also rose to 4,208 in 2025, compared with 4,122 in 2024 and 3,828 in 2023, marking a 9.9 percent increase over the same period.
Muscat Governorate recorded the highest number of registered marriage contracts in 2025 with 6,651, followed by North Al Batinah with 3,753, South Al Batinah with 2,683, Dhofar with 2,462, and Al Dakhiliyah with 2,425.
Muscat also topped the governorates in documented divorce cases with 1,220, followed by Dhofar with 716 and North Al Batinah with 705.
