Sapa: The Omani runner Yaqoob Khalfan Al Nadabi has achieved a new sporting milestone, successfully completing the Vietnam Mountain Marathon over a distance of 100 kilometres, becoming the first Omani runner to complete a race of this distance.
Al Nadabi completed the marathon under challenging natural conditions, including heavy rainfall, muddy and slippery trails, and rugged mountainous terrain, making the race one of the challenges demanding a high degree of endurance and expertise in ultra and mountain trail running.
The actual marathon distance was approximately 100.9 kilometres, with a cumulative elevation gain of nearly 5,500 metres, passing through mountains, villages, agricultural terraces, and natural trails in the Sapa region of northern Vietnam.
The Omani runner persevered through the difficult conditions all the way to the finish line, raising the flag of the Sultanate of Oman in a scene that embodied his pride in representing the Sultanate of Oman in one of the long-distance mountain endurance marathon challenges.
This achievement is a continuation of Al Nadabi's journey in ultra and mountain trail series, which has included participation in a number of international marathons in France, Thailand, Turkiye and Vietnam, in addition to his participation in marathons held in the Sultanate of Oman.
