Silverstone: Oman’s Al Faisal Al Zubair achieved his target of finishing in the points for the second time with a gritty drive to 15th position and points for 13th place in the fifth round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Super Cup at Silverstone in England on Sunday.
The Lechner Racing Middle East team driver qualified 15th, but actually started 18th, of the 32-car field for the 13-lap race on the 5.898km circuit and achieved another points-scoring finish and gained further valuable race time behind the wheel of his GT3 on a fast and demanding race course.
“I am very happy with this result, finishing 15th,” said FZ Racing’s Al Faisal. “Yesterday, a few people got their lap times back so we had to start from 18th, so it was a good recovery to finish 15th. We actually get points for 13th in the championship because two of the British drivers are not registered and just joined the racing this weekend.
“This is a good result on a fast and difficult track. We have high speeds and I felt that suited me a bit more. I was more comfortable in the high-speed corners.”
Dennis Olsen led from pole position and managed to reach the chequered flag ahead of German runner-up Michael Ammermüller, who maintained his lead in this year’s championship standings. Dylan Pereira finished third and Daniel Cammish was fourth. All but two of the 32 cars finished the race that preceded the British F1 Grand Prix.
The sixth round of the Porsche Mobil 1 Super Cup will be held in conjunction with the Hungarian Grand Prix in two weeks’ time.
