Muscat: Oman Global Logistics, which was recently rebranded as Asyad, has been granted a licence to operate Sultan Qaboos Port in Muscat by the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
“The Ministry of Transport and Communications grants Asyad the licence to manage and operate the port of Sultan Qaboos starting January 1, 2018,” tweeted MoTC.
“Whereas Asyad provided its operational plans for the management and operation of the port, which included addressing the status of workers in the Port Services Corporation, which currently manages the port,” added the ministry. Last week, Port Services Corporation said that the company will go for liquidation with effect from January 1, 2018.
A re-branding of the Oman Global Logistics (OGL) Group, Asyad is the holding company formed by Oman government to manage several state-owned firms in transport and logistics sector, including Oman Post, Mwasalat, Port of Duqm, Port of Salalah, Oman Drydock and Sohar Free Zone, among others.
The company’s strategy is to make the Sultanate a logistics hub by developing ports and other facilities, adopting modern technologies and developing human resource.
To achieve the plans, the group will revise all logistic activities, modernise export and import procedures and enhance the use of the best international practices.
