
MUSCAT: Global football’s top man has come to Oman to meet with the Oman Football Association (OFA).
Assigned by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, His Highness Sayyid Asa’ad bin Tariq Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs and Personal Representative of His Majesty the Sultan, met yesterday with Gianni Infantino, president of the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA).
A top official at the Oman Football Association said, “Gianni Infantino came to Oman to get support from us for the upcoming elections which will take place in France. He has come here directly from Europe to ask us for our support, and after this, he will go to the other Arab countries, including Bahrain and Kuwait.
“He also came to discuss with us how he could support our plans here at the Oman Football Association. We are having a series of meetings at the moment. We met yesterday with Major General Mohammed Khalfan Al Rumaithi, Chairman of the General Authority for Sports in the United Arab Emirates, who is planning to run for the Presidency of the Asian Football Confederation.”
During the meeting, areas of cooperation and means of enhancing and developing them among the concerned authorities in the Sultanate in the field of football and FIFA were reviewed.
The meeting was attended by Sheik Saad bin Mohammed Al Saadi, Minister of Sports Affairs, and the Secretary-General and Advisor to the Deputy Prime Minister for Relations and International Cooperation, His Majesty’s Special Representative, Sheikh Salem bin Saeed Al Wahaibi, President of the Omani Football Federation, and the delegation accompanying the guest.
