Huawei is changing how you charge your phone

Muscat: The next time you run out of battery power, look around the table for the Huawei smartphone user, and make them your new best friend. That’s because Huwaei has a new feature - the ability to charge any other phone, wirelessly.
Forget peer to peer, this could end up as ear to ear technology - meaning you and your closest buddies will never be drained of energy again.
The phone maker is aiming to raise the bar with its new Mate 20 Series, highlighting a series of innovative technologies to cement its place as a premium smartphone manufacturer.
In an exclusive interview with the Times of Oman, Gene Jiao, Huawei’s President for the Middle East and Africa, confirmed the series represented one of the strongest technological offerings from the company.
“The Mate 20 Series is one of the most powerful displays of Huawei’s technology,” he said. “The Mate Series shows the muscle of Huawei technology,” he said.
The Mate 20 Series is the latest offering from the Shenzhen-based smartphone giant, representing the culmination of many years of research and development.
“We were very confident from the beginning that we would bring something unique to the market and aiming for the real innovative things, bringing real value to consumers such as the camera, the experience of taking photographs in different scenarios and angles, wide angle, micro view and night shots. All these things require a lot of innovation.”
Jiao added, “It has a long lasting battery and is very fast, it has wireless charger and reverse wireless charger. If another phone runs out of battery, Mate 20 users can use their phones to charge them even if they are not Huawei products. It is also a great way to connect with people.”
It is that desire to connect others and produce powerful technologies that has allowed Huawei to thrive, rising to challenge Apple and Samsung for dominance in the crowded smartphone industry. From its humble origins as a small company in 1987, Huawei has grown rapidly over the years. According to the International Data Corporation, in Q2 of 2018, Huawei was ranked as the second largest smartphone company in terms of market share, with 15.8 percent of the global industry.
And to Jiao, the key to the company’s success lies in its dedication to innovation and its customers. “Many companies have risen and fallen very quickly. Some were giants. But they vanished. Why? It wasn’t because they didn’t have the technology, I believe it was because they did not have consumer-centric DNA like Huawei. “First, we focused on research and development from the beginning. Secondly, is our consumer-centricity. We are always humble enough to learn from the market, to learn the needs of our end-users.”
Initially working business to business, in 2011 Huawei officially entered the business to consumer market by establishing its Consumer Business Group. Since then, the company’s products have served customers in more than 170 countries.
“Two years ago we launched the Mate series under the slogan born fast stay fast, what does that mean? ‘Born fast’ means from the outset it can provide faster service, faster recognition through artificial intelligence, allowing many features to run smoothly. ‘Stay fast’ refers to our deep cooperation with Android, Google, and the Mate 20 Pro is the first phone to be embedded with Android 9.”
The company is confident the Mate 20 Series will attract customers around the world thanks to its advanced features. As Huawei aims to continue growing, the philosophy of ‘Born Fast, Stay Fast’ could be key to achieving its ambitions.
